Chesapeake
Place: Chespaeake
My trip to the Chesapeake was highlighted by the fact that I was being guarded by the famous duo Don & Connie Edwards. We made our epic journey last fall. We rented a 42ft boat out of Annapolis. The charter company was great and very helpful and gave us all kinds of information and directions. Those directions would have been more helpful earlier in the trip if someone,(me), would have actually read and used those directions. For instance they gave us the GPS coordinates for all the marinas we were staying at, however I actually didn't know that until the last night. It's amazing how much time you can waste looking for a marina. Our boat did have a dodger which was fantastic. Some of us were wearing shorts and sweaters behind the dodger while others wimped out and wore coats and sweaters. It also seemed that no matter which way we wanted to go we always had the wind right in our bow. We motored probably half the time. The marinas we stayed at were great. Very nice facilities, clean showers and a big hoice of places to eat. A good suggestion is to never ever under any circumstances go on to someone's multi-million boat parked next to yours. You will meet some very interesting people very quickly. Also, please don't hit the anchored US Navy training boat right in front of you. Again, you will meet some interesting people. GO NAVY!
The trip was great but we had some long hours on the water. A 21 mile trip between marinas really means about 30 miles after going to all the correct marks. If the depth meter says 4 feet, that's probably correct, at least according to the the keel making some strange noises. The trip was great, the houses on the bay are unbelieveable, mile after mile of million dollar homes. It seemed just like Oologah! Don and Connie were great, a lot of fun and very brave to travel with me. Everyone needs to sail the bay at least once in their life. If you have any questions about the trip please contact Don and Connie, I don't remember much, I was drinking a lot of pepsi and sunkist orange. What a wild and crazy guy I am.
